After a great week around the political spectrum I ended the week on Friday by spending time in the office of Chris Hazzard who is an MLA with an office in Downpatrick. Chris is the new Minister of Infrastructure so it was great to speak to him about the many projects like roads, bridges and canals and how he wants to help Northern Ireland. The offices constituency arm is managed by Vincent and he was fantastic to talk to and learn from when it came to the day to day issues they face and what has changed since Chris has become minister.
Later in the evening we had the famous Friends of Saint Patrick BBQ at the centre and it was great. The food was great and the conversation was never dull. The board and many honored guest at the BBQ were so engaging and loved hearing about our experiences. It was really special to meet Margaret Ritchie since she was in Westminster when I was in her office and I was so thankful for the opportunity and it was great to thank her in person. Margaret gave a wonderful speech as we all gathered around the Peace Garden and Dean Henrry Hull from Down Cathedral gave an amazing blessing. We each laid a rock in the garden from our part of the world. It was a great ceremony and the perfect end to a long but rewarding week. I promise as I get more photos I will put them up but will post these two from Twitter as I was a twitter star among the elected officials of the area. Talk to you all soon as I'm sure Dr. Tim has a lot planned for us this weekend!
